Department of Obsterics and Gynecology

   Department of obsterics and gynecology consists of division of obsterics where the pregancy and delivery are treated and division of gynecology where the diseases of female reproductive system are treated. In a broader sense, the division of gynecology deals with all the diseases that occur in female patients ranging from girls at puberty to elderly women.

   With the integrated management of Women's Health Care Center, department of obsterics and gynecology of our hospital provides the primary treatment services for all the diseases associated women, including those which are restricted to the female reproductive tract. It has established the one-stop service and consultation system for the treatment of diseases occuring in women, thus preventing the discomfort and inflict and making a treatment both promptly and correctly. Various clinics at Women's Health Care Center include the following: Gynecologic Cancer Clinic, Pelvicoscopy Clinic, Infertility Clinic, Menopause and Osteoporosis Clinic, Sex Clinic, Breast Clinic, Incontinence Clinic and High-risk Pregnant Women and Fetal Anomaly Clinic.

   The department of gynecology of our hospital is characterized by the presence of pelviscopy clinic. Of the Korean colleges, gynecologic pelviscopy has been first introduced and then developed. Every year, through the training lecture and Korean and foreign academic conferences, it took the initiative role in spreading the technology and knowledge about pelviscopy. When it comes to pelviscopy, it ranks top in Korea. In this hospital, all the gynecologic surgeries including gynecologic cancer are performed using pelviscopy. The indications include uterine myoma, adenomyosis, endometriosis, ovarian cyst, endometrial carcinoma, cervical cancer and ovarian cancer. With the Gynecologic Cancer Clinic, every effort is made for the prevention, counseling, early diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic cancer. Another feature of gynecologic area is to perform myolysis. This is referred to as the surgical procedure where uterine myoma is dissolved and then removed without surgery in an outpatient setting.

   The department of obsterics of our hospital is characterized by

   1. specialized services for normal pregnant women, high-risk pregnant women,
   2. an intra-uterine diagnosis of fetal anomalies and fetal surgeries and
   3. congenital anomlay center.

   With the management of congenital anomaly center, an early surgery and treatment of heart diseases and gastrointestinal ones became possible in newborns. With the use of the state-of-the-art ultrasonography, chorionic villi sampling (CVS), cord blood test and amniocentensis, in addition to its own FISH, it currently maintains the best-known level of an intra-uterine diagnosis of congenital anomaly in Korea. Besides, it provides the fetal treatment services for fetal emphysema, ascites, urinary tract obstruction and fetal anemia. Furthermore, it completely manages high-risk pregnancies, including old-age pregnancy, twin pregnancy, toxemia of pregnancy and fetal growth retardation, and assures the safe delivery through a high-level of treatments at ICU for newborns.

   Chung-Ang University Hospital Cancer Center has established consultation system as well as one-stop service one for the optimal and best medical treatments of cancer patients in case they are incidentally detected (or identified). Affiliated to Chung-Ang University Hospital Cancer Center, Gynecologic Cancer Clinic applies the latest update on such cancers as cervical cancer, endometrial carcinoma and ovarian cancer to the treatment of cancer patients. Thus, it is currently accepted as the leading medical institution in the field of laparoscopic surgery, laparotomy, radiotherapy and anti-cancer chemotherapy for gynecologic cancer.
