Division of Hematology and Oncology

   Division of hematology and oncology is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of various cancers, diverse solid tumors and blood cancers including leukemia), which account for the most prevalent death causes in Korea and the globe, and hematologic diseases.

   Specialists in hematology and oncology, who have trained for the diagnosis, treatment, management of patients with cancer and largely have clinical experience and knowledge for patients with cancer, contribute for the diagnosis and the treatment of various cancers and blood diseases in collaboration with doctors in other clinical areas. They also perform research and education about the oncology and the hematology field. We run a ward which is specialized for patients with cancer under the comfortable surroundings in the new Heuk-seok Dong hospital. For the convenience of patients with cancer and their caregivers, we have prepared the receipt on a first-come-first-served basis) and the lounge in the ward. In the hospital, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation center was established. Thus, active and new treatment regimens were introduced for the treatment of blood cancers.

   Diverse solid tumors such as stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, hepatocellar carcinoma, breast cancer, head-and-neck cancer, pancreaticobiliary cancer, urologic cancer, and gynecologic cancer were diagnosed, treated, and managed, The medical treatment including anti-cancer chemotherapy was priorly performed. For the treatment of blood cancers, anti-cancer chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation were performed in patients with leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, malignant lymphoma or multiple myeloma. A specialized treatment was also given to patients with anemia, thrombosis or hemorrhagic diseases.

   These diagnoses, treatments, and managements for patients with cancer usually were done in collaboration with doctors related clinical areas such as surgery, radiation oncology, laboratory medicine and diagnostic radiology in a patient-oriented manner. Thus, all the medical efforts were made to provide the top-quality of medical services for patients with cancer in Korea.
